We laugh at the things that cause us pain.
We drink coffee to ease the loneliness in our stomachs:
We neglect the sustenance that keeps us breathing.
And our breaths are shallow anyway,
But they are the breaths that whisper
Words that linger:
Words that can be felt long after our ashes
Have dispersed across the barren land.
Words that defend us
From the wind that never finishes its fight.
